How is genetic testing done? Is it painful for my child?
Genetic testing is done by getting blood sample from your child. The needle prick needed to obtain the blood sample is fairly painful and should be explained to your child before hand so that he will cooperate during the actual extraction.
Is Medicaid eligibility automatic?
No. A person has to apply for Medicaid and a caseworker will have to determine his eligibility.
Does Medicaid cover all financially challenged families in the United States?
Medicaid does not provide medical assistance to every financially challenged family. Being poor is not the main and only qualification that determines eligibility. The family has to belong to an eligible group, in order for them to be considered covered by the program.
My son does not respond to loud sounds like ambulance sirens, airplane, etc. as would other children. Is this autism or a hearing defect?
A child with autism may seem to have a hearing defect but in actual his listening capabilities are impaired. A hearing test may rule out the presence of deafness and may suggest for a diagnosis of autism. A consultation with a pediatrician is recommended for proper diagnosis.
My daughter acts very aggressive in noisy places. What is the problem?
Children with autism are hypersensitive to noise and may exhibit aggression in noisy places. Consult a professional certified in autism behavior for proper evaluation.
Should I let my child with autism take an IQ test?
Subjecting your child to an IQ test really depends on you. As a parent, it is good to know what your child’s cognitive mental capacity is but, at the same time, not knowing is not something you need to be concerned about. IQ testing is mostly eagerly suggested for children with autism, since this helps plan what level of learning your child needs and what kind of appropriate intervention is suitable for them.
