What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?
A psychologist is a person who has completed a graduate course that can allow them to provide counseling services to children and their families dealing with any mental or emotional disorder, while a psychiatrist is a licensed physician who can assess, diagnose and treat people who are suffering from mental disorder such as schizophrenia.
Can I give my child a sedative, like Benadryl, to help him calm during the flight?
Yes, you may administer a sedative provided your child’s pediatrician approves it. Diphenhydramine, or Benadryl, is not always the right choice. It depends on what your pediatrician thinks is best for your child. Do not resort to this option unless your child is obviously headed toward – or already in – a panic attack. Distraction such as coloring books, picture books, music and videos are still the best options to keep your child from being restless or becoming unmanageable.
Is an audiogram safe for my child?
Yes, an audiometry test that produces the audiogram is very safe for children as well as adults. This is a non-invasive procedure that will not harm your child in any way.
What is the difference between an audiogram and a tympanogram?
An audiogram tells the softest level at which an individual is able to detect sounds of various frequencies while a tympanogram is a test that can tell if there is physically wrong with your middle ear structure that is causing conditions such as hearing loss.
What is Medicaid?
Medicaid is a government funded health program that can assist for those financially eligible or those who meet disability guidelines. Medicaid is a state-administered health program. There are certain states that set up their own guidelines to be eligible to the services. This type is known as state-owned services.
How do I know which program is best for my child?
Knowing the right treatment for your child is best discussed with your primary healthcare provider. The right treatment will depend on the severity of your child’s autism and which disability needs immediate attention than the rest.
