Does every child with autism present the same symptoms?
No. Autism is a spectrum disorder which means that it has a complex range of symptoms, that ranges from mild to severe. The only similarities children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder have in common are lack or absence of communication skills, stereotyped or repetitive behaviors and difficulty or lack of interpersonal or social skills.
Why is Asperger Syndrome considered to be a high-functioning autism?
It is called a high-functioning autism because many children with Asperger Syndrome do not exhibit many of the symptoms normally associated with the more severe diagnoses in the spectrum of autism disorders.
When can children be checked for pervasive development disorder?
Children with PDD-NOS are often diagnosed around the age of three to four years old.
What is pervasive developmental disorder?
PDD-NOS is a classification within the autism spectrum disorder, which is also referred to as atypical autism. It is a catchall diagnosis, meaning that a child classified in this category is likely to show symptoms of autism but the symptoms don’t fit exactly the set of symptoms or severity of symptoms that define the other categories
What is Childhood Disintegrative Disorder?
It is a serious diagnosis that is characterized by at least two years of normal childhood development followed by a gradual loss of language, social and motor skills before the age of ten. It is included in the autism spectrum disorder (ASD)and is also known as Heller’s Syndrome, Dementia Infantilis and Disintegrative Infantilis.
What are the first signs of Rett\'s Syndrome?
